"How
Can I Help?"
Volunteer
Opportunities
One of the
most frequent questions we hear is "How can I help?" The
answer is to volunteer in any one of many capacities. The
key to Greenbank Mill Associates' success during the last
15 years has been its volunteers. They stepped forward
and preserved the mill, raised money, and even helped do
restoration work. As Greenbank grew, so did the role of
volunteers in areas such as publicity, archaeology, grounds
and building maintenance, livestock, and many others.
Greenbank has
continued to grow and so have our volunteer needs. Here
are some of the ways you can help.
Guides -
Either in period dress or Greenbank shirts, these are the
people who lead visitors through the mills and farm and
provide them with the information to understand Greenbank's
place in history.
Interpreters -
Volunteers in period clothing who guide visitors through
the educational programs and tours. They also explain the
skills and trades performed at Greenbank.
Demonstrators -
People in period clothing who perform skills and trades
(woodworking, needlework, spinning, weaving, etc.) and
answer questions, but are not responsible for tours.
Special
projects - Help GMA construct, repair, and restore
equipment and facilities for public programs.
Research -
Help investigate the records that make GMA's information
and programs historically accurate.
Gardening - This year Greenbank Mill was chosen as
one of the three sites in Delaware participating in the National
Garden Club Historic Gardens Project. The Hoe ’n Hope
Garden Club developed plans for restoring the kitchen garden
and the dye garden as well as creating a specimen garden. They
will work with GMA volunteers to prepare, plant, and maintain
these gardens over the next year, so there will be lots of
opportunities to help plant, water, weed, and harvest.
Representatives
of Greenbank - People who can help man information
booths at community events to let more people know
about Greenbank and its programs.
Committee
members - We need help specifically on public relations,
fundraising, and special events committees, but please
let us know if you have an interest in one of our other
projects or programs.
